The Cat Ladies Calendar isn’t just a date-tracker – it’s a whimsical, heartwarming story of photography, rescue, and feline flair. What started as a small cat rescue fundraiser turned into a celebration of creativity, compassion, and chaos – starring real cats, glamorous ladies, and one very determined photographer (me).

Why the Cat Ladies Calendar Still Matters
In an age of smartwatches and AI assistants, you might wonder – do people still use calendars? Oh, absolutely. There’s something profoundly satisfying about flipping through glossy pages filled with stories, colors, and emotion.
And The Cat Ladies Calendar was more than a timepiece – it was a mission. For our cat rescue team, this quirky project became a lifeline: raising funds for medical bills, sharing our cats’ stories, and uniting a community of rescuers, photographers, and feline devotees.
Calendars can do what apps can’t – they capture hearts, one month at a time.
The Backstory: How the Cat Ladies Calendar Was Born
It all began in 2013. I was juggling rescue missions, vet invoices, and photography gigs when inspiration struck like a paw to the face:
“Why not make a calendar?”
But not just any calendar – a Cat Ladies Calendar. A bold, fabulous, vintage-inspired visual story celebrating women who adore cats and the cats who rule their lives.
As a photographer and graphic designer, I knew I could create something striking. We didn’t have a budget, but we had cameras, creativity, and cat hair in every corner. The perfect ingredients for chaos – and success.
The Concept: Glamour Meets Cat Fur
The plan was simple: style glamorous women with their cats in old-Hollywood flair – feathers, pearls, velvet, and attitude. The cats, naturally, would steal the show.
But cats have their own rules. During the shoots, some decided chandeliers were more interesting than cameras. Others disappeared entirely. One legendary fluffball even napped mid-scene and refused to budge.
Still, that unpredictability made each photo magical. Every shot became a portrait of love, humor, and resilience – the very essence of rescue work.
The Photoshoot Chaos: When Cats Go Full Diva
Picture this: lights, camera, sequins… and zero cooperation.
Even my usually photogenic cat Pierre gave me the ultimate diva glare: “Darling, I’m off-duty.”
Cats climbed, vanished, and performed unprompted parkour routines while the “cat ladies” patiently posed, giggling through the mayhem.
Our secret weapon? Snacks. Coffee for humans, treats for cats. Within an hour, peace (and purring) returned. That’s the thing about working with animals – patience and humor are your best tools.
By the end, we had hundreds of shots – and a dozen stories worth framing.

The Final Selection: The Fabulous Twelve
With the last shutter click, you’d think our mission was complete – but oh no, darling. That’s when the real marathon began. Sorting through hundreds of images, each more delightfully chaotic than the last, we had to narrow it down to just twelve final shots. Twelve! Out of all those dazzling humans, dramatic cats, and accidental masterpieces, we had to choose the perfect monthly muses for our debut Cat Ladies Calendar.
It was like judging a beauty pageant where half the contestants had fur and zero interest in winning. Some photos were out because of blinks, sneezes, or tails mid-swish. Others were just too fabulous to ignore. I spent hours glued to my screen, editing with the intensity of a cat stalking a laser dot – adjusting colors, retouching backgrounds, and ensuring each image radiated exactly the right amount of elegance-meets-eccentricity.
Then came the hunt for a printer. Thankfully, a friend swooped in with a recommendation, and like a matchmaking miracle, we found a print service that totally got our vibe – bold, quirky, and unapologetically cat-centric.
And just like that – after weeks of concepting, styling, herding cats (literally), editing, and printing – the 2014 Cat Ladies Calendar was born. When that first printed box arrived, we held our breath. We opened it. We gasped. And then we exhaled in unison, a collective phew! echoing through the house like a sigh from the universe saying, “You did it, crazy cat people. You really did it.”
The Outcome: A New Year, A Clean Slate
And just like that – cat hair, chaos, and all – the calendar was a hit! Not only did we sell out our first run, but we also raised enough money to clear the rescue’s veterinary bills. We started the new year not just with a clean slate, but with a deep sense of accomplishment and community. It was wild. It was exhausting. It was so worth it.
That whole adventure taught me something timeless: with a pinch of creativity, a sprinkle of stubbornness, and a generous heap of cat fur, you can turn even the fluffiest idea into a real-world solution. The Cat Ladies Calendar wasn’t just a quirky fundraising gimmick. It was a celebration of compassion, an art project fueled by love, and proof that outdated doesn’t mean obsolete – it means tangible, touchable, and human.
So, the next time you find yourself rolling your eyes at a wall calendar in a world ruled by apps and smart devices, pause for a moment. Behind that glossy paper might be a story of rescue, resilience, and roaring creativity. For us, it wasn’t just a calendar – it was a canvas for storytelling, a platform for philanthropy, and most importantly, a lifeline for our furry friends.
And who knows? The Cat Ladies Calendar might just claw its way back in the coming years – grander, glitzier, and with even more fabulous fur. Keep your paws crossed – and your wall space open.
