The Incredible Journey of Lulu: A Rescue Kitten’s Happy Ending
A Rescue Kitten Story: Lulu’s Big Adventure 🐾
Autumn 2012. had just arrived, and let me tell you – our house was already full of furry paws. My sister had four cats in her little apartment, and we had seven of our own. Yes, seven cats! As much as I adore cats, managing so many tails, whiskers, and paws can be quite the adventure.
My sister had already had a busy night. The evening before, she found a kitten in a parking lot in front of our mother’s apartment and brought it home to care for. But that next day, while she was visiting me, she stumbled upon yet another rescue!
The Surprise in the Nettle Bush
As my sister parked her car, she heard a faint meow coming from down the hill, near a patch of nettle bushes. Curiosity piqued, she went to investigate. And there, nestled in the bushes, was a tiny kitten, no more than two months old, with enormous eyes filled with fear. It was a brand-new rescue waiting for help.
Of course, my sister scooped her up right away, but not without a fight! The kitten, later named Lulu, was scared out of her mind and angrily bit my sister’s hand. But after that initial burst of feistiness, she calmed down and let herself be carried.
Another Mouth to Feed?
When my sister brought Lulu to my house, I have to admit – I wasn’t thrilled. Don’t get me wrong, I love cats more than anything, but with seven cats already at home, the thought of adding another little tiger to the mix seemed overwhelming. Flea treatments, worm meds, vet visits, food, litter… everything adds up, and it was starting to feel like too much.
But there she was, tiny and vulnerable, and I knew we had to do something to help her. I decided right away that I’d work on finding her a forever home as soon as possible. After all, everyone knows that kittens have a much better chance of being adopted when they’re young. Sadly, older cats don’t always get the same attention from potential adopters, even though they have so much love to give.
Lulu’s First “Home” – or So We Thought!
I named her Lulu, and within just five days of finding her, a lovely lady offered to adopt her. I thought, “Wow, that was fast!” But, of course, things didn’t go as planned. A couple of days later, the woman called me with some very questionable excuses about why she couldn’t keep Lulu. I won’t go into the details, but let’s just say people can be incredibly unreliable when it comes to pets. And I always say, it’s better for someone to return a pet to me than for the animal to end up in a bad situation.
So, Lulu was back with us. And now, instead of seven cats, we had eight for the time being.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
At this point, I was juggling work, home life, and a house full of cats. Luckily, my mom lives nearby, and she offered to take care of Lulu for a while. We all live close – my mom, my sister, and us – so it became a bit of a family effort. I supplied the food and litter, and my mom looked after Lulu. Meanwhile, I kept searching for her perfect forever home.
I took so many adorable photos of Lulu during this time. She had such a playful, adventurous spirit, and you could tell she was finally starting to relax and trust the people around her.
Lulu’s Happy Ending: Austria Bound!
After two weeks of caring for Lulu, I connected with a local cat rescue group in Austria, near Graz. Through them, Lulu finally found her forever home! She made the journey to her new family in Austria, and I couldn’t have been happier for her. Seeing her go to a loving home made all the hard work and sleepless nights worth it.
This story had the happiest of endings, and Lulu’s transformation from a terrified kitten in a nettle bush to a beloved pet in Austria was nothing short of amazing.
