It was impossible to ignore her. With a purulent neck injury and a damaged eye, she was the epitome of vulnerability. Yet, her spirit was unbroken. She was a feral cat, untamed but not unlovable.
We named her Tiny, a name that belied her enormous spirit. She first graced our garden in 2011, arriving as an adult cat with no one to call her own. Despite our best efforts, she couldn’t be tamed or kept indoors whole time. Her spirit was too wild, her need for freedom too great. She was a wanderer at heart.
The Healing Journey: More Than Just Band-Aids
Treating her injuries was a delicate process. Feral cats are notoriously skittish, but she seemed to understand we were there to help. With time, medication, and a lot of TLC, her physical wounds began to heal. But what we didn’t expect was how she would heal our souls in return.

She was a clever, but a tender one. Not content with just receiving, she gave back in her own unique way- gifts of mice, rats, and even small snakes. These were tokens of a wild life, a testament to her untamed soul.
A Lesson in Empathy: The Cat Who Knew Too Much
Her understanding went beyond the ordinary. One day, she brought along another adult female cat with an ear tumor and multiple health complications. It was as if she knew we could help, extending her circle of trust to include another in need.
The Bittersweet Goodbye
It’s with a heavy heart that I write these words, for she is no longer with us. It’s with still immense sorrow that I share the end of Tiny’s journey. In the summer of 2013, a careless driver took her life right on our street. Her untamed soul was extinguished far too soon, but her impact on our lives remains everlasting.
